World class sculpture at the heart of Wood Street Collection, Wakefield.

March 4, 2025

Planning permission has now been secured to install one of Martin Creed’s celebrated neon sculpture, ‘EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’, above the entrance of the city’s landmark former Crown Court building in the Civic Quarter. Martin Creed is a globally renowned, Turner Prize winning artist, born in the city. Wakefield has a strong reputation for its world class sculpture and this work seeks to only further strengthen its identity.

The artwork will take pride of place in the heart of our forthcoming Wood Street Collection residential community, a creative, warm welcome to the area currently being delivered by our housebuilding arm Fallowdale Homes.

Wakefield’s courthouse will join landmark buildings around the world in becoming a canvas for Martin Creed’s neon sculpture for all to enjoy. ‘EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT’ offers a beacon of hope at locations across the globe including Times Square, New York, Palazzo dell’Arengario, Milan and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh – each piece eliciting a different emotional response depending on its setting and context.

Creed’s pioneering work will shine a light on a new chapter for the Grade II listed, neo-Greek courthouse which has stood empty for three decades. Wakefield is the home of  Neon Workshops which has manufactured many of Creed’s neon pieces, as well as works from other internationally acclaimed artists including Dame Tracy Emin.
