Bretton, Groucho

March 15, 2024

The Groucho Club, the renowned private members club, is to open a new permanent venue outside London for the first time in its history. This is a huge milestone for Rushbond and our partners. Bretton Hall will become Bretton Groucho and the amazing journey we have been on to restore this cultural and historic gem continues. Working with our partners Artfarm and Yorkshire Sculpture Park the ingredients are in place to create a truly significant regional, and indeed national destination.

Nestled in the heart of Yorkshire Sculpture Park, this landmark site is dripping with history and holds a special place in the region’s cultural heritage. Formerly the home of Bretton Hall College, much-loved to this day by many who studied and taught there, it is heartening to think that what was once a vibrant hub for cultural learning, community engagement and expression will once again be alive with the spirit of creativity.

Bretton Hall College, established in 1948, served as a hub for artists, musicians, designers, and performers, fostering innovation and artistic expression. It’s contributions have left a lasting imprint in West Yorkshire, shaping the region’s artistic community, and enriching its cultural landscape. By reimagining this iconic landmark, its legacy of creativity and inspiration can continue for future generations.

The unveiling of Groucho Bretton in 2026, coincidentally Rushbond’s 40th anniversary, aligns with our commitment to cherish and sustain historic sites, ensuring their importance for years to come. This endeavour reflects our shared vision of establishing with our partners a truly exceptional destination—a community hub where creativity and friendship flourishes, all within the unparalleled setting of Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

By preserving heritage, fostering innovation, and enriching Yorkshire’s cultural fabric, we aim to help strengthen the region’s status as a leading cultural hub in the UK, and the wider Europe.
